Regular maintenance will ensure a fine running computer for many years. Some
precautions and preventions can extend the life of your computer.
- Power Protection: Use a good surge stripe, or for the
ultimate protection use a battery backup unit. Make sure that you also
protect you phone line with surge protection. Check these devices on a
regular basis for damage and operation.
- Ventilation: Make sure your computer is well
ventilated, and that case is not covered and near a heat source. If you have
a lot of equipment in your case, make sure you have adequate fans for
exhausting the heat from the case.
- Dust: You should blow out the dust from inside the tower
at least annually and more frequently if you have a dusty house. You may
consider letting us do this for you, to ensure a complete and a safe
job is done.
- Hard Drive Maintenance: You should consider cleaning out
unnecessary software and data, on a regular basis. For example monthly if
you are an average user. You can use utilities that come with windows for
disk cleanup, error checking and defragging.
- Update Software & Drivers: To help keep your system safe
from threats and from mechanical damage, you should keep your computer up to
date with software patches and fixes. One way to do this is by visiting
Microsoft Windows Update site on a regular basis or have your system set up
to download and install the updates at a regularly scheduled time each week.
Hardware drivers should also be
updated on a regular basis as well, and this is something you should have us
do if you don't know what we are talking about.
- Virus & Privacy Threats: You should protect your
computer with a virus program, we recommend Norton Anti-Virus and offer very
competitive pricing. Also Use of other utilities to eliminate spy and ad
ware is very beneficial for maintaining good system performance and
security.
